Parish Letter

October 2010

As many of you will know our Vicar, Roger Chapman, has suffered a long period of illness since his licensing in November last year and, as a consequence, he has now decided to take early retirement from the end of August 2010. He, his wife Gill and their son John-Daniel left Eaton Bray at the end of that month and are now back in their home in Hertfordshire. Roger was only active as our Vicar for three weeks, but during that time many people met him and were kind enough to tell us of their high hopes for the future. Sadly it was a future that was not to be. Our love and prayers go with them and we pray especially for Roger's rapid return to good health. By the time you read this, the post of Vicar will have been advertised both in the Church Times and on the Diocesan and Church websites and we hope to be well into the process of selecting Roger's successor.

Despite the fact that we are without a Vicar, the Churchwardens would like to reassure everyone in the Parish that St Mary's Eaton Bray continues to fulfil its role in the Community. If you wish to speak to a member of the Clergy then Father John Heffer or Canon Christine Farrington will be happy to receive your call or visit you at home. Additionally, Gordon Gray, our Reader, is always a good Christian counsellor if you are in need of a chat. If you wish to discuss a Christening or Baptism then Elisabeth Ryder. If a Wedding is what you have in mind then contact Jenny Hewett. If all else fails or if none of the above is quite what you want then the Churchwardens are always around to point you in the right direction or to offer advice.

But the involvement of St Marys with the Community is not just about Christenings, Weddings and Funerals. Did you know that the Focus Magazine started off life as the Church Magazine and that the Annual Carnival is not only the biggest event of its kind in the area but is also an event run under the care of St Mary's Church.

Elsewhere you will find mention of various Church activities but here is a rundown of what is going on over the next few months.

Sun Dec 19th Carols at St Mary's Eaton Bray at 6.00pm

Sat Dec 24th Candle Services in St Mary's Eaton Bray at 4.15pm & 6.00 pm

As you will see this is altogether a packed and exciting calendar of events showing that the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Eaton Bray is very much alive and well - do come along to see us. You will always be very welcome.
