Walkers and cyclists are gearing up to visit over 600 churches around Beds and Herts on Saturday, September 12.

The Bike 'n' Hike event, which is in its 17th year, sees churches from every denomination opening their doors to visitors.

Organiser, Patrick Lepper, said: "It has caught on in a quite remarkable way and we have now a considerable following of regulars as well as new people joining in each year."

The event is organised by the Beds and Herts Historic Churches Trust, which helps cover the cost of the maintenance and repair of the churches in Beds and Herts.

Last year, the trust made grants and loans of £293,000 to churches for repairs or structural improvements.

If you want to take part in the event or to find out which churches are involved, visit or call Patrick on 01442 866414.
