St Mary's Eaton Bray: May 2006

Follow the history trail

Anyone fascinated by the history of Eaton Bray should make a date to visit the village church this Sunday afternoon.

A talk on the history of the manor of Eaton Bray, covering the period from 1066 until the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII in the 16th century, is being given as part of the church trail scheme organised by St Mary's.

The talk will include information about Lord of the Manor, Reginald Bray, who was a national figure with connections to St George's Chapel, Windsor.

Afterwards there will be tours of the church to learn more about the building's provenance, at 2.30pm and 4pm.

Mothers Union Eaton Bray with Edlesborough

Mothers' UnionOn Saturday, March 25th, sixteen members of the M.U. attended a Lady Day Eucharist at St. Albans Cathedral.

The Preacher was our worldwide President, Mrs. Trish Heywood. As we stood for the first hymn, the Abbey Girls' Choir; Deanery M.U. Chaplains; Cathedral Clergy; Archdeacons and the Bishops of Bedford and St. Albans entered in procession, followed by banners of the M.U. Branches in the Diocese of St. Albans.

It was a very emotional moment, especially to see the banners of St. Mary's Eaton Bray and St. Mary's Edlesborough carried by Mary French and Ann Lee respectively.

Monies collected by all members were presented to Trish for her Overseas Fund. It was a most enjoyable morning.
