The Diocese is challenging everyone during Lent to read a verse or two from St Luke's Gospel with the simple formula to 'read it, learn it, pray it, do it'. Have a look at the website www.challenge2010.org.

Here are the verses for the coming week:

  • Sunday 28 March: As Jesus came near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, "If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes". Luke 19.41-42
  • Monday 29 March: Jesus said, "Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much". Luke 16.10
  • Tuesday 30 March: Jesus said, "All who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted". Luke 18.14
  • Wednesday 31 March: Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on".
  • Maundy Thursday 1 April: Jesus said, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, "This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood". Luke 22.19-20
  • Good Friday 2 April: Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing". Luke 23.34
  • Saturday 3 April: Jesus, crying with a loud voice said, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit". Having said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23.46
