The Parish Chest

Between the Lady Chapel and the south door stands one of the parish chests, dated 1673.

Such chests were used for storing documents, altar cloths, and even church plate, and generally had three locks, the keys being held, one each, by the Vicar and Churchwardens.

There is an older chest in the north chapel (1576), and another beside the north door.
